IMPORTANT NOTICE TO OUR COMMUNITY
IN LIGHT OF THE EVOLVING COVID-19 SITUATION

 

We have your back!

​In this time of confusion and doubt, with so many questions and few reliable answers we write to offer you one definitive piece of news: Smile On Seniors will stay open for the duration. We have no plans to do anything but offer whatever support and assistance we can to you, our beloved seniors and community.

With older adults and people with chronic medical conditions at risk for more severe disease we are taking a number of measures to protect you, our community and our volunteers and to continue to be there during this most difficult time.

Here is what we are doing:

  • Events: Our upcoming events have been canceled until further notice. However, we are offering  other events in their place! We are hosting a thrice weekly virtual social gathering event and presentation on Zoom and Facebook Live. In addition we have a monthly Movie Discussion Group on the third Tuesday of each month.   • Friendly Phone Calls: Our volunteers will be making phone calls and reaching out to our community's seniors and mature adults in order to continue to maintain social engagement and friendship and ensure that they have everything they need. If you know of a senior we might not know who would appreciate this, please email [email protected] or call 602-492-7670.

  • Senior Living Communities: Senior living communities have shuttered their doors to visitors to mitigate and prevent the spread of coronavirus and to protect their communities. We are offering our programming to them virtually. We will provide Discussions with the Rabbi and other stimulating programs via webcast and video conferencing. If you would like to volunteer your time with a valuable presentation or class please contact [email protected] or call 602-492-7670.

  • Critical errands: For seniors or active adults with no family or caregiver who are homebound due to coronavirus we are offering our services for critical errands. We can help, contact [email protected] or call 602-492-7670.

  • Mental Health Professionals: If you are feeling overly anxious we have assembled a team of mental health professionals who have agreed to talk to you by phone if you so wish. Please email [email protected] or call 602-492-7670 if you want to avail yourself of this service.

We urge you not to panic, to be careful and take the precautions we are being urged to take, and to methodically make a plan for to protect yourself and be prepared for a prolonged quarantine. We are sharing a number of important resources below to keep you informed and better protect yourself.

How You Can Protect Yourself

  • Wear a mask to protect yourself and others and stop the spread of COVID-19.

  • Stay at least 6 feet (about 2 arm lengths) from others who don’t live with you.

  • Avoid crowds. The more people you are in contact with, the more likely you are to be exposed to COVID-19.

    Visit the CDC webpage with more guidance.

  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds each time, especially when you’ve been around young children. 

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick for any reason.

  • Consider avoiding crowds.

  • Stay in touch with others by phone or email. You may need to ask for help from friends, family, neighbors, community health workers, etc. if you become sick.

  • Determine who can provide you with care if your caregiver gets sick.

  • Clean and disinfect your home to remove germs: practice routine cleaning of frequently-touched surfaces (for example: tables, doorknobs, light switches, handles, desks, toilets, faucets, sinks & cell phones).

  • Stay up to date on CDC Travel Health Notices if you are planning on traveling. 

  • Make sure keep enough medications on hand in case you get sick.
